Another way real estate agents scam buyers with Zillow

I just read a disturbing story on a real estate agent from Alameda California who intentionally changed sold properties to active so buyers would contact her to see them.

This is a complete violation of REALTOR ethics and Zillow Terms of Service, but the agent didn't seem to see anything wrong with it. Fortunately another agent in the office has made some effort to stop her.

Locally here in Michigan I was just talking to a home buyer Saturday about Zillow and he wanted to know why I said the Zestimates were often more than 20% off. Zillow is fine for generalities. but don't trust it for important decisions!

Hi, it's David G from Zillow.com,

That's a disturbing story and it's good to hear that the agent has been stopped. I wonder how they thought they'd get away with this? With almost 6 million people visiting Zillow each month, the chances of fake listings going unnoticed is not good.

Obviously this could happen on any website (or newspaper) where listings are advertised but I will mention that Zillow has an added protection for homeowners that can help avoid this scenario. If a homeowner claims their home on Zillow, they would receive an e-mail alert if an agent happened to list it for sale on the site.
